I’m currently halfway into my first year of my undergraduate maths course, I’m really enjoying it but I’m struggling to keep up. I don’t have an issue with learning concepts in the sense that I can grasp the concepts being taught to a deep level, however I struggle to do so at the speed expected. From what I’ve seen talking to other students on my course is that I have a habit of learning a topic deeper than others but a LOT slower, this causes me issues as we have in class quizzes pretty regularly which contribute to a small part of each modules grade, as a result I’m always a few weeks behind on the material that the quiz is based on so I do not tend to do well.
Each theorem were presented when they offer a proof I insist on every single step and being able to recreate the proof myself, if I don’t do this and just learn a method or a general proof template for certain types of exam questions I just feel bad like I’m not actually engaging with the material. I’d be happy to hear if anyone has any tips on balancing out my need to learn in depth with also keeping up with material as I have not been able to find a good solution as of yet :)
