Hello Everyone,
In the coming weeks, I will be starting the second year of my studies at my institution. Currently, I am dual-enrolled in both the master's and PhD programs for statistics, and if everything goes correctly, I will be graduating with my master's in May. But as I have had time to think about further studies past that, I'm not sure if I want to continue with my PhD studies. Giving it some thought over the summer, I've come to realize my heart lies more in work than research, so I'm more eager to graduate and start a career than to do more study and research. But I am afraid that without the doctorate, I may be missing out on opportunities.
For context, I've spoken with the professors at my institution, and I'm not too excited about any of the projects. I understand I should've given that more thought before starting at my current institution, but that wasn't in my mind at the time of applying. When it came to applying for masters/phd programs, I only did the institution I was doing my undergrad at. My undergrad grades weren't the best, and I figured this was probably the best and only place I could get in, given I had good standing with the faculty. I am currently 23, so I'm pretty young. I just wanted to hear from some people who may be more knowledgeable about something like this before I make a final decision in the coming semesters.
