Math Office Hours?

Not sure if this belongs here, but I just found out that my math prof was the doctoral advisor for a Fields medalist. Thus, I was like, man, I would REALLY like to talk to him about like that experience you know? But the problem is, I am but a mech eng freshman with not a very good basis in pure math, and I cannot understand a WORD of his or the fields medalists' papers. (I really like the subject, but don't have enough of an undying passion to pursue academia) Would it be worth it to go to office hours and be like hey so I was kinda curious about this...? If yes, how exactly would I go about it? Or should I just not? (I'm taking a really basic lin alg course with him, nothing deeply related to what he studies)
