Greetings mathematics sub! I’m a mechanical engineer/systems engineer and I’m currently working on a screenplay that has a mathematician in it. It’s an ensemble that will also include a physicist, biologist, anthropologist, and an astronomer.
I also want to say I have the deepest respect for
Your vocation. My intentions are to develop a real-world perspective on your craft to ensure a reasonably accurate portrayal.
As a mathematician:
1. What’s something about your field that genuinely unsettles you if you think about it too long?
2. What idea in your field do you think most people misunderstand emotionally, not technically?
3. Has studying your field changed how you experience ordinary life?
4. What’s a question your field keeps pushing you toward, even if it can’t answer it?
5. If your field discovered something that fundamentally changed humanity’s understanding of reality, what do you think the public reaction would actually look like?
If you’re interested in hearing more about the script, dm me.
