Can anyone give me some context for this math joke?

In my country's small math community, combinatorics is called "math for lower-class people " :(

Opposed to combinatorics, branches of math like algebraic geometry and diophantine geometry are called "higher-classed fancy math".

I'm guessing the main motive of this joke is either that combinatorics is such a "loner" branch of mathematics or that combinatorics is much more accessible to undergraduates.

Do other countries have a similar themed joke on a certain branch of math?
